NEW FASHION TRENDS FOR Summer 2008
The clean-cut, fresh look is back for guys and girls alike, replacing the distressed, well-worn styles of previous years. Look for classic neutral colors of olive, khaki and grey to pair with bright spring colors for a much needed “punch” of boldness. Brights such as melon, medium blue, cool pink, lavender, bright red, warm gold and all shades of green and purple fill the stores for spring. You won’t find many styles dominated by black and other darker colors this spring. Big blocks of contrasting colors are one of the key trends for spring 2008. You’ll also find more floral print fabrics and the “nautical” look for ladies.

Tops
Ultra-feminine tops are here to stay, featuring flirty, flowing styles and sheer fabrics. Burnout patterned fabrics are popular layered over a bright colored cami for “pop.” Some tops feature ruffles and other lady-like embellishments. Pick up a cardigan now for an easy transition piece over tops and summer dresses.
Bottoms
Spring brings much needed variety to the bottoms in your wardrobe. Put away your super-short shorts and skirts and opt for the longer Bermuda shorts. You’ll also see a wide array of pedal pushers, crop pants and wide-leg trousers. Popular skirts will be pencil thin, reaching the knee or below. Pick up a white pair of bottoms to signal spring is surely here!
Dresses
Don’t discount the all-important summer dress for the season. Cute styles featured feminine flair with ruffles, flowers and lady-like plaids in shorter hemline varieties. You’ll see empire waist, or belts and ties at the waistline.
Shoes
Put a little spring in your step with bold, bright & beautiful footwear! Think citrus with a pair of orange, lemon or lime colored shoes. Patents, metallics, floral prints, color blocks, cut-out patterns and other embellishments adorn shoes this season. Ballet flats and platforms are still a popular choice and wedge heels will be around again. Be daring with high, thin heeled dressier styles. The sling-back is a must-have style of the season.
Accessories
A clutch purse is perfect to tote around all your necessities. Bright colors or metallics are sure bets for handbags. Silver is popular for both clothing and accessories, along with a toned-down rosier gold. Colored gemstones in blue and pink will adorn jewelry. Complete your new spring look with long pendant necklaces, layered bracelets and large earrings.
Guys
Look for contrasting colors such as black and white, or bright colors like purple and green paired in stripes or plaids. Stripes are everywhere with the horizontal variety in knit tees & polos and vertical lines in button-downs. Pants and denim in slimmer styles will be popular for the fashion forward, but the wardrobe staples of boot cut, relaxed and straight leg will still be around. Select a cool, cotton button down shirt in a more contoured fit and layer a lightweight sweater or blazer on top for a sharp, clean look for work or a night out. Slim-fitting tees and those featuring graphic prints are must-haves for the season. Athletic shoes showcase blocks of bright colors. Channel your inner “beach guy” with plaid board shorts, a corded pendant necklace and flip-flops for everyday wear.
